Hot Summer Nights

The temperature continues to rise, here in New York, along with our anticipation for the weekend. As if baking in the heat isn't enough, escaping to a movie theater for the opening of the new Batman movie is impossible with every showing sold out! We hope some of you were able to snag a few. Luckily, we all have our Tweety cocktail send off to look forward to. These juicy ideas are what are keeping us going!

Foodie's Delight

Many would agree that food is about a lot more than just how it tastes. It's about presentation, combination, and creativity. While produce art (carving and arranging fruits and vegetables) might seem a little stodgy, it proves to be anything but. These sculptures can be lifelike as well as imaginative, but always unexpected.  Artists who work with these delicate and time-sensitive materials are finding themselves in great demand, as the art form has been gaining new followers, enticed by their sheer creativity and wow-factor.

The work of Jimmy Zhang caught Tweety's eye recently. Not only does Jimmy use lots of lively yellow, but his creations are so well done, they make it look easy! These little yellow beet butterflies look like they could alight on you, if they decide to move from that delicious watermelon.  Also, the lemon version of Tweety would make a great prop to distract evil Sylvester so that our dear Tweety can run free!

Here's a drink Tweety would like to sip on while musing on the art:

The Ladybug

4 cups half-frozen watermelon cut into 1-inch chunks (seeds and all)
1/4 cup vodka
1/4 cup lime sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth—makes 5 drinks!

July 11 Weekend Cocktail Send Off

Our favorite feathered friend has the luxury of spending gorgeous summer days flitting from tree to tree, watching all of the sun worshipers who are lucky enough to have summer Friday off or are simply vacationing their summers away.  For those of us unlucky enough to be in the office on gorgeous summer days (New York City is absolutely glorious today!), may we suggest that you take a clue from Tweety and try to spend some time outdoors?  Remind your boss that some of the greatest ideas come when you let your mind wander, and a bottle of chilled white wine might even result in an idea for the next best seller.  We here at Tweety HQ are partial to a lovely Sancerre or something similarly dry and refreshing.  After a couple of sips, you'll start to feel like you're lazily whiling away your days in the Loire Valley..

  • Call a friend
  • Find a suitable outdoor space (rooftop, front stoop, park, lake, beach)
  • Remove bottle of white wine from cooler
  • Open bottle
  • Pour

July 4th Weekend Sendoff

As I am sure most of you have one foot or beak out the door already, we want to send you off this weekend early with a special 4th of July cocktail goodbye.  If you are anything like us (and we think you are), your agenda for the next couple days includes laying/playing in the sun, stuffing your face with some BBQ, catching some fireworks (unless you live in NYC and then you can just sulk about not catching fireworks), and of course drinking with your friends and family.  In honor of the festivities and our patriotic spirit, we want to give you some drink ideas that pay tribute to the red, white, and blue of our dear ole flag, because even Tweety puts down the yellow this weekend to pay homage to our beloved country.  White – my personal favorite is a vodka tonic, but adjust to your palette by substituting either gin or soda.  Red – I am always a fan of a great red wine, but for those of you looking to hit the hard stuff try a vodka/gin mixed with cranberry to show off your pride.  Blue – stay away from mystery blue drinks.  That color you are about to swallow because it is the special at the bar does not appear anywhere in nature.  You can thank me in the morning!

Happy 4th to all!

Summer Play Time

Working during beautiful summer days can be o’ so frustrating.  Your boss thinks you are concentrating really hard on that document – the two page paper you have been reading for over an hour – but really you are stuck in a day dream of you on the beach, Tweety chirping in the sky above, cold beer in hand, or shopping for that piece of Tweety Fine Jewelry you eyed recently at your local jewelry store.  Since your days of childhood summers, with time to do nothing but play, are long gone here is little game to bring you back to your childhood of yesteryear.  Plus since you will be playing this game on the computer, you will be perfectly masked under faux work.  Enjoy and remember, just because you didn’t end up finding Neverland, doesn’t mean you have to give up on the child within.  Tweety recommends getting some ice cream on the way home from work today!

Weekend Cocktail Sendoff

With the cost of gas prices rising faster than you can spell Tweety Fine Jewelry, this weekend we should all make a conscious effort to spend our money elsewhere.  So when Friday night roles around, and like a Pavlov dog you start slobbering for some juice and gin, we recommend using what you have in the house or walking to your local bar where everyone know your name.  (Or where no one knows your name…No one said you have to be a social butterfly to deserve an ice cold beverage.) Enjoy something cold in these beautiful days of summer and have a great weekend!

Is a chirp or a bark more distracting at work?

Did you know that today was officially  take your dog to work day?  This is obviously the 2008 version of take your daughter/son to work day.  If the original thought was to take your child to work so that you can have a happier workday with your loved ones close by (doubtful) then take your dog to work is a reasonable “holiday.”  However, if take your child to work was meant to give children a glimpse of what Mommy/Daddy does all day (more probable) than how can you justify taking your dog to work?  I will lean towards my first guess at this holiday and follow suit by bringing Tweety to work with me in the hope that my bright little birdie will bring cheer to my day.  Since I do not want to steal the spotlight of all the dogs celebrating today, I will celebrate take your Tweety to work tomorrow.  Oh, and the easiest way to bring Tweety to work is to grab your favorite piece of Tweety Fine Jewelry, and wear it in to the office.

A break from reruns...

Finash brings us this great oldie of our favorite yellow feathered friend on a you-tune-esque website called Daily Motion. With summer here, and all your favorite shows running repeats, this cute little video serves as a dose of entertainment freshness.  And, if you think Tweety looks great on the silver screen, than you should see the little birdie in diamonds…Enjoy!

Summer Cocktail Weekend Sendoff

TGIF and TGIS!  (Thank god it’s summer!)  Tomorrow marks the first official day of summer.  (Although, here at Tweety head quarters in NYC we have already been served a healthy dose of heavy summer heat.) So throw your favorite cocktail over ice, and take it outside this weekend to enjoy the fresh summer sun and air.  Whether you prefer an unidentifiable frozen concoction or just a good ole’ beer, both will pair perfectly with the breeze of the great outdoors.

Stay hydrated in the heat to avoid making delirious comments like, “I thawt I thaw a putty tat…I did!...I did!”  Have a great weekend, and happy summer solstice!

Nests for Less

June 18th. What does that mean to you? The 169th day of the Year? The 123rd anniversary of Waterloo? For many New Yorkers, it’s a big day, one they've been looking forward to for a long long time. It's the Ikea grand opening in Red Hook Brooklyn. For too long, New Yorker's have had to trek out of their cherished 5 boroughs for stylish yet inexpensive home goods to feather their nests. But no more!

Some of Tweety's favorite offering from this Swedish shore are this side table (above) and this right hand chaise (below). These yellow pieces really help brighten even the gloomiest of corners.

While the excitement may seem a bit silly, it's really very important. As Tweety knows, how one lives affects their state of mind. Having a stylish abode aids in creativity, generosity, and a sense of well-being. As a supporter of all things swanky, snazzy, and smart, Tweety is a big fan of Ikea.
